‘Aparigraha’ is the Jain principle of non-possessiveness that focuses on creating a balance between desires and needs and detachment from your own possessions. Aparigraha is the opposite of Parigraha which means ‘the focus on material gain’. Aparigraha means asking for little and be satisfied with what you have in hand. Jain ascetics have no possessions. Similarly, Jainism advocates that lay followers should minimize their desires for accumulation of possessions and enjoyment for personal ends. Through this monograph, the author has introduced the concept of aparigraha in various philosophies, while explaining the importance of the aparigraha theory of Jain philosophy, as well as outlining the psychological aspects of aparigraha, outlining how useful it is for environmental protection and sustainable economy
